Why Fond-ICO Next Tech?
To transform the Spanish productive model through strengthening the technological sector, providing our economy with higher levels of competitiveness and job creation capacity is crucial. Promoting entrepreneurship and the scalability of projects in new technologies is essential.
Fond-ICO Next Tech is a joint initiative of the Official Credit Institute (ICO) and Axis with the State Secretariat for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, included in the National Plan for Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience.
The fund is endowed with 4 billion euros of public money, with the objectives of public-private collaboration, strengthening the Spanish venture capital sector.
What sectors?
Primarily in Deep Tech, including among others:
- Provide the Deep Tech sector with sufficient financing to support its growth.
- Anchor and attract companies and economic activity to Spain by offering competitive financing.
- Expand the size and capacity of the venture capital sector in Spain.
- Attract and retain innovative national and international talent in the digitalization sector.
- Bring international funds and investors to Spanish companies and projects.
Fond-ICO Next Tech invests both in venture capital funds and corporate funds/vehicles, as well as in companies that meet the fund’s investment criteria.
Fond-ICO Next Tech’s ultimate goal is to channel investments—up to 49%—either through other funds or directly into companies that meet four fundamental components:
